Conversations with Teela Reid and Simon Longstaff: Unpacking the Voice to Parliament by Robyn Hutchinson

On the 4th April at the Ethics Centre Sydney proud Wiradjuri Wailan woman, lawyer Teela Reid joined Dr Simon Longstaff to unpack the Voice to Parliament. With a multitude of conversations, commentaries, and clarifications, the notion of RECKONING rang clear . Australia IS at a time of reckoning, and particularly on the eve of the Liberal Party’s announcement about its position on the proposed constitutional amendments. This reckoning is a call for ALL Australians to consider deeply, our future as a nation, unified or divided. This is a call for a consensus on a way forward, towards truth telling and healing.

The vast majority of Australians believe that when Indigenous people have a permanent say, this WILL open the door to true ‘reckoning’ We are all invited to be part of this RECKONING journey.

Two ways you can contribute to this Peoples’ Movement are:

• Direct your supporters to Yes23. You will be guided to write a letter to your Federal Coalition MP and/ or Peter Dutton Leader of the Opposition

Make a submission on behalf of your organisation to the Inquiry into the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum.

Teela Reid and other authors examine the need for ‘acts of reckoning’ in more detail at Griffith Review 76
